May 5th AZPOSH Meeting Follow Up

Last Wednesday was the second meeting of the Arizona PowerShell (AZPOSH) User Group at Interface Technical Training in downtown Phoenix. Like last month, we had about 20-25 people show up for the meeting. Free pizza was provided, swag from Quest software was given away to everyone, and we had a blast digging into some PowerShell code.

Harry Meier did a great presentation on “The Many Layers of VMware PowerCLI” where he started with the basics of managing VMware with PowerShell and moved into more advanced topics. He took use through several scripts, such as how to clone Virtual Machines and scan RedHat servers for missing patches with PowerCLI.  You can download Harry’s slides and code here.

We spent the last part of the meeting with Mike Pfeiffer examining some real world code examples from various sources.  Mike revised several code samples to utilize new PowerShell v2 cmdlets and techniques. He also talked a bit about utilizing .NET classes and how to search MSDN for help. You can download the scripts here.

For those that did not make it last week, we announced that we are now listed on PowerShellGroup.org, please sign up and join the group. Events will still be posted here as well, but we’ll be using some of the tools on the site, such as posting polls and meeting updates.

We have several things in the works for the next meeting; we’ll be posting more about it in the coming days so stay tuned!

This Wednesday’s meeting agenda

Hello everyone! Hope you have had a great beginning to your month!

This week, (May 5th) is the 2nd meeting of the Arizona PowerShell User Group. RSVP if you can! Here’s the agenda for the meeting; remember we start at 6:00pm

1. Announcements
2. Speaker: Harry Meier — VMware and more with PowerShell!
3. Working Smarter Series (Adapting real world scripts)

Now, Harry Meier is going to delight us with cool VMware stuff, maybe even some RedHat things using PowerShell. I know he has a lot of tricks up his sleeve, and we are going to give him the floor for an hour. Make sure to bring your questions as this will be great to see PowerShell in action!

Our own Mike Pfeiffer will be examining and explaining some real world scripts to solve problems in the new series “Working Smarter”. Mike will take a script and diagnose it for us, show us how to optimize key components and create valuable scripts for the office.

Now don’t be a stranger, all levels of skill are welcome, even if your brand new! I know work and traffic can be a hassle, but stop by and have some pizza with your PowerShell friends!

Be safe,
